Pacific Gas and Electric Files 10-Year Undergrounding Plan with $117B Long-Term Benefits
Pacific Gas and Electric Company filed a proposed 10-Year Electrical Undergrounding Plan with the California Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety, outlining a long-term, risk-based strategy to improve safety and reliability in high wildfire-risk areas across Northern and Central California that delivers long-term benefits valued at $117B. The proposed plan would place approximately 5,000 miles of electric distribution lines underground from 2028 to 2037 in locations where undergrounding is forecasted to provide the greatest reduction in wildfire risk. In these areas, undergrounding powerlines can reduce ignition risk by nearly 98% and improve reliability with 90% fewer outages. PG&E estimates that completing 5,000 miles of undergrounding will also save customers approximately $6B in vegetation management, operations and maintenance costs over the life of these assets. The plan includes work in more than 30 Northern and Central California counties.
Critical Loop's Cygnus Achieves CSIP 2030.5 Certification
Critical Loop announced that Cygnus has achieved official CSIP 2030.5 certification and successfully completed interoperability testing with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, joining the utility's Flex Connect Approved Solution Providers list. Coupled with its existing UL 3141 listing, Cygnus is now the first power controller on the market to hold both certifications, giving customers a single solution with broad compatibility across utility environments, including PG&E and Southern California utilities. While PG&E interoperability does not require both, the combination gives Critical Loop greater flexibility to deploy Cygnus across California's evolving grid landscape.
