LA Judge Tentatively Rejects Insurers' Claims Against Edison International
Superior Court Judge Laura Seigle tentatively rejected a request from insurers seeking to hold Edison International's Southern California utility liable for a 2025 wildfire in the Los Angeles area, Laura Curtis of Bloomberg reported. Insurance companies were seeking billions of dollars in property losses under a state law that generally makes utilities responsible when their equipment ignites a fire. The ruling comes without a trial and was debated by attorneys at a hearing, days after the Los Angeles County Fire Department concluded that the Eaton Fire was caused by electrical arcing on an out-of-service tower located on a dry hillside. Shares of Edison International are up 3% following the ruling.
