Canadian Pacific Sets New Grain Transport Records
Canadian Pacific Kansas City said it has set new September monthly and third quarter records for transporting grain and grain products across Canada and the United States. In Canada, CPKC moved 2.94 million metric tonnes and 30,324 carloads of grain and grain products in September 2026, the second record month in a row to begin the 2026-2027 crop year. Also, the three-month period of July, August and September 2026 set a third quarter record for carloads and metric tonnes in Canadian grain. In the United States, CPKC moved 2.51 MMT and 26,236 carloads of grain and grain products in September 2026. Also, the three-month period of July, August and September 2026 set a third quarter record for carloads and metric tonnes in U.S. grain. Combined in Canadian and U.S. grain, last month set new records for total carloads and metric tonnes for the month of September and the third quarter. All the new records topped marks set in 2020.
Canadian Pacific Reaches Tentative 5-Year Agreement with Union
Canadian Pacific Kansas City said it has reached a new tentative five-year collective agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. The tentative agreement providing increased wages and more flexible work rules covers approximately 250 train & engine employees on the southern portion of the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern property operating trains in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. The tentative agreement is pending ratification by the union's membership.
Canadian Pacific Sets New Record: 2.54 Million Tonnes of Grain Transported in August 2026
Canadian Pacific Kansas City said it has set a new August monthly record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products, moving 2.54 million metric tonnes, MMT, and 26,051 carloads in August 2026. The new August achievement beat the previous tonnage and carload records set in August 2020. The new August monthly record covers the first four weeks of the 2026-2027 crop year which began Aug. 1, 2026. CPKC finished the 2025-2026 crop year setting a new annual record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products by moving 30.66 MMT during the 12-month period. The record annual volume exceeded the previous record set in the 2020-2021 crop year. The 2025-2026 crop year included monthly records set in January, February, April, May and June. Across CPKC's U.S. and Canada network, the railway also set a combined monthly tonnage record for grain movements in August, moving 4.86 MMT and 50,396 carloads.
Canadian Pacific Reaches Arbitration Agreement with Union
Canadian Pacific Kansas City said that the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Canadian Signals and Communications System Council No. 11, IBEW, has agreed to enter into binding arbitration and bring the strike initiated on May 31 to an end. The IBEW represents approximately 300 Signals & Communications employees across Canada. The company will welcome its employees back to work beginning Monday morning, Aug. 24.
