Clearfield Expands Fiber Portfolio with New Sensing Cable Solutions

Clearfield announced the expansion of its fiber portfolio with new temperature, acoustic, and strain sensing cable solutions. The distributed fiber optic sensing portfolio helps operators continuously monitor the condition and security of outside plant fiber routes, central offices, data centers, cell sites, and other critical infrastructure - providing investment protection. Unlike cameras or individual sensors that only monitor specific locations, distributed fiber sensing can provide continuous visibility across long stretches of aerial, buried, and conduit routes. Operators can use the technology to detect digging activity, unauthorized access, tower climbs, temperature changes, and cable strain before they result in a fiber cut, service outage, or emergency truck roll.

Clearfield Launches Fault Managed Power Portfolio

Clearfield announced its new Fault Managed Power portfolio, designed to help operators deliver both fiber and power to remote radios, edge sites, and distributed network equipment. As broadband, wireless, and computing infrastructure converge and move close to end users, operators must deploy equipment across a growing number of remote and distributed locations. Each site requires not only high-capacity connectivity, but also a safe, reliable, and scalable source of power. The new Fault Managed Power portfolio combines a rack-mounted transmitter with indoor and outdoor receiver options to support supervised Class 4 power delivery over distances of up to 6,000 feet. Together, the solutions help operators reduce reliance on local utility power and coordinate power delivery with the fiber infrastructure already serving remote equipment.

Clearfield and CCT Rebuild British Virgin Islands Communication Network

Clearfield announced that Caribbean Cellular Telephone and BVI Cable TV have rebuilt a large portion of the British Virgin Islands' communications networks using Clearfield's modular, pre-connectorized fiber technologies. According to CCT, these solutions cut deployment times in half while dramatically improving restoration speed after hurricanes. Following the devastation of two Category 5 hurricanes in 2017, CCT rebuilt with a different priority: not just how fast it can be deployed, but how quickly it could be restored when the next storm hits. Today, the operator serves roughly one-third of households and numerous businesses across the territory using a fiber network built on Clearfield solutions. In the British Virgin Islands, storms, heavy rainfall, and difficult terrain make traditional fiber deployment and repair slow and resource intensive. After the hurricanes destroyed CCT's cable infrastructure, the company faced long equipment delays from legacy vendors with lead times that stretched from three to nine months, as well as a limited pool of skilled fiber splicers. CCT partnered with Clearfield to take a different approach. Together, the companies designed a fully pre-connectorized, modular outside plant network in a matter of weeks.
