Nasdaq Sinks Amid Broad Tech Selloff
The S&P closed lower and Nasdaq sunk amid a broad tech selloff that continued from yesterday. Markets in Asia took a hit overnight as chip names including Micron and Nvidia were in sharp decline. Investors appear increasingly focused on whether enormous capital spending commitments across AI infrastructure, data centers and chips can justify current valuations.Interest rates are also back in focus. Markets have become more sensitive to the possibility of tighter monetary policy expectations, which tends to hit long-duration growth assets the hardest. Higher rates reduce the present value of future earnings, making richly valued technology stocks especially vulnerable to sentiment shifts.Get caught up quickly on the top news and calls moving stocks with these five Top Five lists.1. Bernstein Downgrades Carnival's 2026 Net Yield Guidance
Carnival's Q2 results showed a slight revenue miss but a 6% EBITDA beat driven by strong cost control, offset by a notable downgrade to 2026 net yield guidance and softer demand commentary tied to geopolitical disruption, Bernstein tells investors in a research. The firm, which has a Market Perform rating and $28.70 price target on the stock, notes that focus will likely shifting to concerns about demand strength, consumer health, and the weaker yield and EBITDA outlook for the second half of the year.
CEO Weinstein: Company Q2 Operational Outperformance
"Our second quarter operational outperformance and accelerated cost efficiency efforts have offset the transitory moderation shaped by the prolonged conflict in the Middle East, which is incorporated into our second-half outlook. As conditions continue to normalize, we expect to benefit from the strong demand, pricing and operational improvements embedded throughout our business. Recent booking trends already suggest that we are beginning to see a reversal of these headwinds, reinforcing our confidence in both the near-term outlook and the long-term earnings power of the business," CEO Weinstein added.
