Brent Crude Surpasses $100, Heightening Market Concerns
Stocks are lower as Brent crude rises above $100 a barrel for the first time since July, adding to inflation concerns ahead of this week's key price data. Additionally, the 10-year Treasury yield has climbed to around 4.81%, its highest level in nearly three years. The renewed oil spike is being driven by escalating fighting in the Middle East, including attacks involving Iran-backed Houthi militants and Saudi energy infrastructure. Brent has gained roughly 20% over the past month, raising concerns that an extended energy shock could feed directly into consumer inflation and complicate the Federal Reserve's policy decision next week. That puts Thursday's PPI and Friday's CPI reports firmly in the spotlight. Markets are currently pricing roughly a 62% probability of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike next week, according to CME FedWatch, a shift from earlier expectations for easier policy. A hotter-than-expected inflation reading could push yields and rate-hike expectations even higher, while a benign report could give stocks some relief despite elevated oil prices.Meanwhile, investors will be watching Apple's iPhone 18 launch event later today to see whether the company introduces meaningful hardware or pricing changes under new CEO John Ternus, particularly amid reports of a potential foldable iPhone. In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures fell 0.33%, Nasdaq futures fell 0.49% and Dow futures fell 0.57%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.UP AFTER EARNINGS -Oddityup 32%J.Jillup 14%Signet Jewelersup 9%Caleresup 7%InnovAgeup 7%Jersey Mike's Subsup 1%Chewyup 1%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -ServiceTitandown 19%Casey's General Storedown 11%SailPointdown 7%LOWER -Tyra Biosciencesdown 25% after reporting initial results from SURF302, its Phase 2 study evaluating oral dabogratinib in patients with FGFR3-altered low-grade intermediate-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer
