Talcott Financial Plans to Acquire Brighthouse Financial

Talcott Financial Group, an insurer backed by Sixth Street, sent a private letter last month to the board of life insurer Brighthouse Financial, reaffirming its desire to take over the company if a current deal falls through, people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg's Katherine Burton, Alexandre Rajbhandari and Allison McNeely. Aquarian Holdings agreed last year to buy Brighthouse, but Delaware's insurance regulator is now reviewing the funding sources for that bid, Bloomberg previously reported.

Aquarian Holdings missed the original deadline to close its $4.1B deal to acquire life insurer Brighthouse Financial as regulators continue to scrutinize the firm's hunt for new backers, reported Bloomberg's Allison McNeely. Delaware's insurance regulator questioned Aquarian founder Rudy Sahay in a closed-door meeting in recent weeks about the firm's sources of capital backing its acquisition and how it plans to use those funds, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who add that the regulator has also asked about Aquarian's plans to manage Brighthouse's balance sheet.
