Pershing Square Adds Investments in Visa, Mastercard, and Others

Pershing Square Inc. said in its quarterly letter to investors: "We recently made new investments in Visa (V), Mastercard (MA), Netflix (NFLX), S&P Global (SPGI), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), and Alcon (ALC), companies we have closely followed for years. When taken together with our existing holdings in dominant, fast-growing companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Uber, Brookfield, and Restaurant Brands, we believe our current portfolio is highly attractive in terms of business quality and prospective earnings growth and is therefore well-positioned to deliver strong future returns. While the share price performance of our portfolio companies has been highly volatile this quarter and year-to-date, in our view, their underlying business progress remains consistent with our high expectations."

Stock Futures Modestly Higher as Investors Await CPI Report

Stock futures are modestly higher as investors look ahead to Wednesday's July consumer-price report, while developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to drive oil and inflation expectations. Progress in talks between Iran and Oman over maritime activity has helped pull oil prices lower after Brent briefly approached $90 a barrel amid the latest U.S.-Iran tensions. The July CPI report is a catalyst this week, with economists surveyed by Reuters expecting headline inflation to rise 3.4% year over year and core CPI to increase 2.5%. The report will be particularly important following last week's unexpectedly weak July jobs report, which showed payrolls falling by 23,000 and prompted markets to sharply reduce expectations for a September Fed rate hike. A hotter-than-expected CPI reading could push those expectations back in the opposite direction. The market is also continuing to digest a strong earnings season and the durability of the AI investment cycle. Super Micro Computer and CoreWeave are scheduled to report after the close, giving investors another opportunity to assess demand for AI infrastructure and whether spending levels remain sustainable. In pre-market trading, S&P 500 futures rose 0.16%, Nasdaq futures rose 0.37% and Dow futures rose 0.08%.Check out this morning's top movers from around Wall Street, compiled by The Fly.HIGHER -ACV Auctionsup 13% after Bloombergthe company is exploring strategic alternatives, including a potential sale or strategic partnershipFirst Solarup 3% after Baird initiated coverage of the stock with an Outperform rating and a price target of $318UP AFTER EARNINGS -Babcock & Wilcoxup 34%Riot Platformsup 17%Alconup 3%Cardinal Healthup 1%DOWN AFTER EARNINGS -Life360down 27%Upworkdown 16%On Holdingdown 13%Hims & Hersdown 6%Rocket Labdown 4%LOWER -Inteldown 1% after increasing the size of its share sale to $20B in common stock from $15B
